Zoya Ultra PIxieDust L to R: Arianna, Noir, Oswin

get a little sassy

Arianna is described as a “blue-toned red wine textured PixieDust with Mega Hex particles.”

I love the slight pinky-toned reflects in this one!

3 coats Arianna on the nails (no top or base coat)

vampy all the way

Noir is described as a “vampy, plum textured PixieDust with red Mega Hex particles.”

The plum really comes to life when the light hits it!

she’s so classy

Oswin is described as a “true red textured PixieDust with crimson Mega Hex particles.”

This true red reminds me of Dorothy’s ruby slippers when on the nails!

The Selection

I love the three shades Zoya chose for this collection since they cover a wide variety of shades for the red-lover in all of us.  Classic?  Go for Oswin.  Feeling sassy?  Go for Arianna!  Vampy?  Let your inner vamp shine with Noir, baby.  The glistening formula of each is beautiful with lots of dimension, but I think Noir wins for the most contrasting dimension.  I just love when it looks like there is a galaxy on my nails, and she does it for me.  Arianna is a sassy red wine and I love that the shade of red in the glitter can look burgundy as well.  I think my favorite of the three is the true red, Oswin because it is such a classic color but with the Ultra PixieDust formulation it has a fun twist – plus it reminds me of Dorothy’s ruby slippers in the Wizard of Oz!  The finish of the Ultra PixieDust nail lacquers dry textured and matte, but what I love most about this Zoya formula is that it is so sparkly with glitter even after it dries, so it doesn’t look dull on the nails.

Review & Application Tips

All three of the Ultra PixieDust Fall 2014 shades have a beautiful full-coverage formula.  The recommended application for the Zoya PixieDust nail lacquers is to apply to clean nail beds with no base coat, then apply 2-3 thin coats of the Ultra PixieDust formula (no top coat).  The first coat is mostly the jelly-like base but the nails really come to life with coats 2 and 3!  I tend to prefer three coats, but I will apply just two if I’m in a hurry.  I don’t know how Zoya does it, but the formula is consistent between all three and all three applied the same on the nails.

Worried about removal since it contains glitter?  I’ve found the Zoya PixieDust formulation are much easier to remove than typical “glitter” polishes which I think is due to the nice jelly base that goes down with the first coat.  To remove, I simply soak a cotton pad in acetone remover and let it sit on my nail for less than thirty seconds, then swipe it away.  Very little glittery residue is left over, which is such a relief!

If you are a fan of reds for fall and winter this collection will take you through multiple seasons for sure.  I definitely recommend!

Sassy?  Classy?  Vampy?  Which PixieDust are you?  I’d love to know your favorite!
