If sweet memories of ooey-gooey peanut butter perfectly balanced with sticky grape jelly bring a smile to your face, then you’ll definitely want to gobble up this upcoming palette release from Too Faced.  Too Faced has won us over with their cocoa-infused products in other palettes, bronzers, and even their cocoa powder foundation, so why not create another sweet-treat for our cosmetic senses with a palette inspired by peanut butter?  Peanut Butter, one of the most popular shades from the Too Faced Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chocolate Bar Palette is starring in her own palette with plenty of warm toned metallics, rich and creamy mattes and a couple pops of sweet jelly to really make her shine.  Let’s take a closer look at the Too Faced Peanut Butter and Jelly Eye Shadow Collection, swatches and what I experienced when using all of the shades below.

Too Faced Peanut Butter and Jelly Eye Shadow Palette

First of all, the packaging is adorable – I just love the cute lashes and lips they put on that PB&J sandwich – isn’t she cute?!  The PB&J palette is the same size as other small palettes by Too Faced, having a tin outside and plastic pan on the inside to house the shadows, as well as a small mirror in the lid.  Next let’s move onto the PB goods on the inside:

Too Faced Peanut Butter and Jelly Inside the Palette

Inside you are greeted with lots of warm and gooey peanut-buttery shades.  There are three large pan eye shadows and six smaller shadows.  The palette can be divided into makeup looks if you are looking for color combination ideas as you can see in the palette above – The PB&J look uses Extra Creamy, Jelly, and Nuts About U;  The Rich & Creamy eye look uses Bananas, Peanut Brittle and Jammin’; the Soft & Sweet look uses Spread the Love, Peanut Butter and Peanut Butter Cup – now that look is all about the peanut butter!

As with many of the smaller palettes Too Faced has a decent mix of matte, shimmer and satin shades.  Here are shade descriptions courtesy of Too Faced

  • Spread the Love: Medium Peach with Gold Sparkle
  • Peanut Butter: Matte Medium Orange Brown
  • Peanut Butter Cup: Metallic Golden Bronze with Gold Sparkle
  • Bananas: Soft Peachy Gold with Fine Gold Shimmer
  • Peanut Brittle: Metallic Burnt Orange
  • Jammin’: Dark Chocolate with Golden Sparkle
  • Extra Creamy: Matte Creamy Beige
  • Jelly: Vibrant Orchid
  • Nuts About U: Matte Brown with Red

If the colors looked warm in the pan just wait until you see them swatched below.  This is every warm, golden and bronze lover’s dream of course with a bit of jelly splashed in for some interest – but it’s mostly peanut butter I’d say!

Too Faced Peanut Butter and Jelly Eye Shadow Palette Swatches Swatched L to R: Spread the Love, Peanut Butter, Peanut Butter Cup, Bananas, Peanut Brittle, Jammin’, Extra Creamy, Jelly, Nuts About U

In swatching the shadows, the mattes are creamy and built up quite nicely and although some of them have a few glittery sparkles in them they aren’t over the top.  There are a couple of metallic shades in the palette which I was afraid might be chunky, but fortunately they were all smooth.  The only fallout I experienced was with Jammin’ which is a matte with golden sparkle, but it wasn’t hard to control. You may be curious about that pop of color called Jelly in the pan as I was.  In the swatch above I built it up about three times to show the color which is a beautiful fuchsia-purple with blue shift.  The color isn’t too bold, yet it does build up quite nicely on the eyes so if you would prefer to just wear a hint of color you can go for it, or you can build it up to more.  The finish is smooth and satin-like and blended easily.  I had no problems applying or blending any of the shades in this palette on the eyes and they wore well on top of a primer for me. Oh, and are you wondering about that peanut butter smell?  And does it contain peanuts?  Most importantly and fortunately it does not contain peanuts so anyone with allergies can feel free to partake of this PB&J – hooray!  And onto the scent – while it does have a hint of peanut butter scent it reminds me more of what a very sweet peanut butter candy smells like, but I’m not getting an overwhelming sense of peanut butter here which could be a disappointment for those PB lovers out there, but a relief for those who may not care for the scent of peanut butter.  Regardless it is a nice scent that makes me smile when I open up the palette and once on the eyes I don’t smell anything.

Overall this is a beautiful warm-toned tawny brown palette that will be a must have for those who are drawn to these types of shades.  I can see this palette working beautifully year-round, and I love the entire concept – from the cute packaging to the colors Too Faced selected, to the quality and performance.  It’s a good one!
