Not Your Mother’s (NYM) is a trendy and upbeat brand offering a wide range of products now, from shampoo and conditioner, hairspray, detangler, heat setting spray and more to choose from. The brand says they offer “salon quality at value pricing”. The price range for this line is quite reasonable, with it running at about $6.00 for each product, it is something that will not break my already broken wallet even more. 😉
Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Refreshing Dry Shampoo
I am always excited to try out a new dry shampoo because I have an oily scalp that plagues me every 1.5 days after washing it — seriously, it’s like clockwork! Because of this, the NYM Clean Freak was just begging me to give it a try. I will say with all of the dry shampoos I’ve tried (all drugstore so far), this one nears the top of the list namely because the scent is so light and disappears so quickly, which is unlike many dry shampoos with heavy scents that make me feel sick after awhile. The product claims to absorb excess oils and gives a light matte finish. On my root-growth (a light brown) I did find it to give quite a matte finish as it states, but it also left it looking a bit dull. The directions say to apply a generous amount which I also found to be true if I wanted it to absorb the excess oil, however, even though I had to apply a lot it did not make my hair feel like it had buildup, so that is a good thing.
Not Your Mothers Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray
In the spring and summer I love to sport beachy waves! After my hair is partially done air-drying I twist it up into a high bun while I run around for the day (or even sleep in it) and then the next day I untwist it and I’ve got lots of waves! I decided to spray the Beach Babe into my wavy bun-head hair to see what it would do to for me. First of all, the scent is so divine! It isn’t particularly strong-smelling but has a hint of coconut scent in it, so it really does smell beachy. I found that in my already-waved hair this product separated and gave my hair some texture. It slightly dulls the shine from the hair a bit, which is expected, especially if you want that more authentic beach look (which by the way is still is super sexy even if you don’t live anywhere near a beach!). I did a combination of spraying and scrunching my hair with this product and used quite a bit of it and was surprised that my hair didn’t feel heavy or stiff, which was good, but it did give it a more dry feeling overall (which would probably be due to the sea salt) . I like to take a bit of shine spray to offset this a bit, while still keeping the texture. Overall, I think this is a good product to try out if you want to experiment with the beach babe look and smell fabulous in the process!
