Grab your favorite pen and your brand new notepad – it’s time to make some skincare goals for 2016!
It’s the new year and now is the time to get back on track, organize and make goals for the year. I’ve been in organization-mode for the past week and a half, making steps to organize all areas of my life which means I have a “clear it out or move on” kind of attitude! I’ve also recently discovered the planner world and I’ve been obsessed with several new office products like cute folders, pens and all sorts of office goodies to inspire me to get everything mapped out for the year. So while I’ve got my pen poised for action, let’s talk about making a few skincare goals for the year and get that on the calendar!
Lumped into the broad category of beauty, skincare sometimes gets pushed to the wayside for not being “glamourous” enough or perhaps your skin is just too frustrating to even think about – too dry, constant breakouts, hyperpigmentation – so to deal you just cover it all up and go about your day, your month, and then before you know it the year is over!
Today let’s take organized action and look at a few products to exfoliate, hydrate, whip into shape and pamper that skin of yours so we can make 2016 our best skin year yet!

MICHAEL TODD Soniclear petite | $99 US, ulta.com
Exfoliation is the key for a myriad of skincare problems from dry flaky skin to oily and acne-prone to wrinkles and hyperpigmentation. I am a big advocate of the chemical exfoliant BHA (Salycilic Acid), but today I wanted to give a shout out to cleansing tools and how effective they are! Above I’ve pictured the Michael Todd Soniclear Petite, the cleansing tool I use to aid in soft exfoliation each night, and to make sure my skin is thoroughly cleansed. The Soniclear has three speeds so I can choose the speed that feels best on my skin, plus it beeps so I know how long to cleanse each area of my face. The brush heads are also antimicrobial which prevents 99.9% of stain and odor causing bacteria, lasting for 6 months until a new brush head needs to be replaced. Another option is the Clarisonic Mia and Mia2 which is available in a single or two-speed variety, which I have used for years, and find effective. If you’ve been putting off purchasing a cleansing tool, make it a goal in 2016 and see what you experience!
PAULA’S CHOICE RESIST Anti-Aging Eye Cream | $32 US, nordstrom.com
If you’ve got dry skin, hydration is a no-brainer, but regardless of your skin type, it is important you don’t forget about the delicate skin under the eyes. I have oily and acne prone skin so in the past I’ve opted for a regular moisturizer for my under eyes, which has worked fine. Recently, however, I’ve developed dry eyes and have to apply eye drops several times a day which means the skin under my eyes has been dry and irritated from all of the excess activity. Over the past couple of months I’ve been using the new Paula’s Choice product, RESIST Anti-Aging Eye Cream which has been working like a charm in keeping my under eyes moisturized. What I like best about the formula is how thick it is, which means it stays all night long as I sleep. The tube packaging is brilliant (no dipping my fingers in and out of a pot!) and it does not contain any fragrance, which is very important to me, especially that close to my eyes. If you’ve been feeling the need for under eye hydration in the form a rich eye cream recommended for all skin types, this is one to try out for 2016!
SPF and I are BFF’s, but I’ve got a confession to make – over the past year I’ve been turning toward my favorite BB and CC creams that offer a little bit of color coverage for quick out the door makeup and SPF coverage all in one. Meet two of my favorites – IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream, and Dr. Jart + Beauty Balm. Both are excellent at giving excellent coverage for the skin, work with my oily skin and also gives me sun protection. Before rushing out the door I simply top it off with a light dusting of powder and I’m set. There are a variety of BB and CC creams on the market for a variety of skincare needs – so what are you waiting for?
Beauty on the Inside
Since it’s the beginning of a new year you’ve probably made some sort of pact with yourself that this is the year you’re going to take your vitamins every. single. day. While you’re at it, how about adding a few beauty supplements to your routine? I talked about these Hum Runway Ready supplements earlier in 2015 and have a couple of packs left which is perfect to get me back into the habit of taking supplements for the new year. I like that these packs include a combination of biotin, Vitamin E, ALA and GLA, which makes it a complete skin and hair package. I’ve been missing my long hair from a couple of years ago, so a hair boost is definitely in order. Whatever supplements I decide to try next, I’m going to add in biotin for my hair and nails in 2016 – it’s a priority!
Fountain of Youth
PAULA’S CHOICE RESIST Ultra-Light Super Antioxidant Concentrate Serum | $36 US, paulaschoice.com
Chasing after that holy grail skin product that will magically take away all my wrinkles and give me my youth back is something that could drive any woman insane, so let’s take a different approach. In 2016 what would happen if you searched for the most effective serums filled with antioxidants, nutrient-rich formulas that left out fragrance and “fluff” ingredients? I’ve got a few serum favorites from 2015 that I’m bringing along for the 2016 skincare joyride! The RESIST Ultra-Light Super Antioxidant Concentrate Serum works great as a night serum for my oily skin, and I use the RESIST C-15 serum in conjunction with it every night for tightening and brightening. Paula’s Choice has a few more anti-aging products like the RESIST 1% Retinol Booster or the RESIST Skin-Firming Line Minimizer to stimulate collagen production and repair damaged skin that I’m curious about too. In 2016 I’m making a point to introduce more targeted treatments in my skincare regimen.
So this year I challenge you to pick apart your skincare regimen. Get rid of things that aren’t working anymore, try out something new, tackle those skin problems you’ve just been covering up and make 2016 your year for new skin!
Do you have any skin care goals for 2016? I’d love to hear about it!
