Maybelline introduced a glossy version to their Baby Lips line this summer. The new Maybelline Baby Lips Moisturizing Lip Gloss has been spotted in permanent displays in Target and Walmart. I recently found a special display in my local grocery store containing quite a few finish options – sheer, shimmery and cream. At such an affordable price point, combined with my Baby Lips curiosity, by the time I got to the checkout I found I had selected about half of what was in the display!
Now it seems like you’re either a Baby Lips fan, or you’re not. So if you like the Baby Lips Balm then you’ll want to take a look at these glosses, because they are literally the gloss form of the balms – down to the scent, the pigmentation and the feeling on the lips!
The Baby Lips Moisturizing Lip Gloss packaging has a soft flock applicator and clear tube so you can see the shade. Let’s take a look at closeups and swatches:
Closeup + Swatches
Above are 3 of the cream finishes – 35 Life’s A Peach, 40 Tickled Pink and 25 Taupe With Me
Above are 3 of the shimmery/iridescent shades – 15 Fuchsia Flicker, 20 Lilac Lumi, and 05 Just a Glimmer
There are also “sheer” shades that I did not pick up because I wanted to choose ones that looked like they had the best color payoff. Well, let’s see how I did!
Remember how I said these are the equivalent of Baby Lips Lip Balm in a gloss? I think you can see by the swatches above these are very reminiscent of the color payoff you get with the lip balms. They are all sheer, while some have more hints of color than the others. Let’s take a look at how they swatch on the lips. I’m going to start with my favorites – the shimmery iridescents:

So beyond the light color payoff, which is to be expected from the Baby Lips line, the feeling on the lips is identical to me as with the balm. It is just as moisturizing as the balms, has the same lightly sweet scent/flavor, and lasts just as long on my lips. The difference is the pop of shine you get upon first application, which does die down after about 1 hour. The moisturizing feeling on the lips lasts a couple hours. The glosses are not sticky, just smooth on the lips, however I found if I tried to build up a considerable amount to try to achieve more “intense” color it does feel a bit sloppy, so just doing a couple swipes is sufficient for me.
Between the sheer color payoff and the moisturizing feeling on the lips, plus the scent I really like these little glosses! The iridescent shades are the most unique and I prefer them over the creams I tried. Overall I think these are lovely additions to give my lips a quick shot of shine that is easy to wear on my bare lips when they feel chapped or on top of lipstick for a bit of moisturizing shine.
Have you tried the new Baby Lips Moisturizing Lip Gloss? What do you think?
