Are you a shiny-lips kinda gal?  Marc Jacobs Beauty injected some mega shine for lips with the summer 2015 permanent release of their Enamored Hi-Shine Lip Lacquers, and I’m loving it!  Today let’s take a closer look at 5 of the 18 available shades from the lineup, see a few swatches, how they look on the lips and how they perform.

Winning an Allure Best of Beauty Award for 2015, Enamored has a a wide color range available, from nudes to deep plum, with a cream or shimmer finish.  The formula includes apricot and passion fruit to hydrate and protect lips and can be worn on bare lips for a hint of glossy color or used on top of a lip pencil or lipstick to add ultimate shine.

Marc Jacobs Beauty Hi Shine Lip Lacquer with Flocked Applicators

Top to Bottom: Pink Flamingo | Forbidden Fruit | Moonglow | Love Drunk | Pretty Thing

The shiny chrome, glossy black and glassy clear acrylic packaging make the glosses feel ultra luxe.  The flocked applicator is substantial to hold enough product to apply to the lips and it is easy to work with.

The pigmentation varies between each shade – the lighter shades tend to be more sheer, while the darker provide a little more color.  Keep in mind that these are glosses, so some transparency is to be expected.  The scent of the glosses is slightly sweet, slightly minty, but they have no taste.

The feeling on the lips is just the way I like my glosses – with enough slip to feel comfortable on the lips and a bit of stick so it hangs out for awhile and leaves the lips with a conditioning layer when most of it is gone.  As a comparison with a similar gloss, I find them less sticky on the lips than the Make Up For Ever Artist Plexi Gloss.  Enamored has that extra bit of “slip” initially, making it a little more comfortable, yet it still stays around for a long time.  Enamored typically lasts on the lips for more than two hours and then slowly begins to fade.

Let’s take a look at a few close-ups and how they look on lips:

Moonglow - Marc Jacobs Beauty Enamored Hi Shine Lip LacquerMoonglow on the lips Marc Jacobs Beauty Enamored Hi Shine Lip Lacquer

Moonglow is described as a soft pink nude with cream finish.  It has a bit of a peachy tone to it and a milky formula.  I prefer wearing this shade on top of a nude lip pencil or lipstick rather than on its own.

Pink Flamingo

Pink Flamingo is described as a bubble pink.  It is a blue-based pink cream that is quite sheer on my lips, but it gives my lips a natural pinky shine – love it!

Pretty Thing

Pretty Thing is described as a muted rose, and it is a cream finish.  This is a good every day shade, giving the lips a hint of rosy nude flush.

Forbidden Fruit

Forbidden Fruit is described as a bright candy orange and it has a gel-like cream finish.  This one is a little more sheer than I expected for such a bold shade in the tube but I like that it gives a hint color for those days when I don’t want to go all-out orange.

Love Drunk

Love Drunk is the only shimmery finish I have to share with you in this post, and it is my favorite of the five!  The mauve-gold shimmer is subtle once on the lips so it isn’t obvious gold sparkle, but it does add that extra dimension to make it unique.  The pigmentation is the strongest with this one, providing nearly full coverage on my lips.

The Bottom Line

Overall, Enamored is a winner if you are a fan of ultra-shine, with a hint of color and a formula that feels good on the lips and lasts a long time.  The glosses take awhile to get tacky, but they eventually get there as they wear, so keep that in mind. Of the 5 I tried I prefer the shimmery one, so next time I’m in Sephora I’m definitely going to take a peek at more shades.  As for me these are definitely going on rotation when I’m in a glossy mood!

  1. My first thought when I saw these in the tubes was that Love Drunk had the brown-based tint that has become popular again. It even looked brown-based in the swatch. On you, the mauve really comes out and is quite pretty. If I go for one of the glosses it will most likely be this one as I prefer not to spend $28 on a gloss that looks too sheer or natural.

Yes! It totally has the brown-based vibe to it – I think you are going to love it! I am not sure if it is just the darker color or the addition of the shimmer that makes it more opaque but it definitely makes me curious about the other shimmery shades. I am on the fence about sheer glosses – I definitely like them to top off lipsticks when I’m in a glossy kinda mood, but I generally don’t wear a gloss that is sheer by itself. The MJB has a good formula though, and not all glosses can say that – I’d say this one and a Chanel Glossimer would be my favorite sheers at the moment! 🙂
