If you’re into glossy, watercolor-kissed lips then you just may want to give one of MAC’s latest lip releases a try. Released for spring, the Versicolour Stain is a gloss/stain hybrid product that almost feels gel-like on the lips. If you think you’ve seen a similar product out there you’re not going crazy, my friend! The packaging size, applicator and feeling on the lips is actually quite similar to the YSL Glossy Stain, which I’ll share with you in another post, but today let’s take a closer look at the Versicolour Stain in Tattoo My Heart.
The MAC Versicolor Stain is a liquid lip color that is a gloss and stain all rolled into one. Tattoo My Heart is described as a “bright pinky coral”. As far as the “stain” part of Tattoo My Heart, I was a bit disappointed that it isn’t very strong. It is so faint that it disappointingly blends into my natural lip color. Bummer! The packaging is slightly larger than a MAC lipstick in height and width and I like that the center of the tube shows the true color of the gloss inside. Here are a few swatches for you on the arm and lips:

As you can see Tattoo My Heart is a gorgeous vibrant pinky coral. I do want to note that on the MAC website, the color appears to be more of a peachy-toned hue, but it most definitely holds true to it’s color description of a “bright pinky coral” rather than the online photo. As I mentioned above, this product doesn’t stain my lips very effectively, and unfortunately the gloss does not stick around very long either. At first application the feeling on the lips is slick and gel-like and leaves a gloss on the lips that lasts about an hour for me, and then slowly fades over the next four hours or so. Bummer again for me over here! Fortunately, the product doesn’t feel heavy or sticky, which makes it comfortable to wear on the lips.
Overall, I wish I didn’t have so many “bummer” moments with MAC Versicolour. while I like the glossy stain hybrid gloss because of the lightweight “gel-like” feeling, I would not consider Tattoo My Heart a stain on my bare lips (because it doesn’t show up) and it isn’t wowing me in the gloss department either because of how quickly the glossy effect goes away! The one redeeming factor to this product is that it isn’t sticky or heavy feeling on the lips and the scent is quite nice since it has that slight vanilla-cookie scent MAC is known for. Still, the product isn’t quite doing it for me.
