With highlighting products popping up left and right nearly every day, we might as well declare Summer ’16 as the summer we all slayed the glow! I’m starting to catch a bit of the gotta-get-glowed fever as well, after getting to play with the Laura Geller Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminators. The Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminators are a baked highlighting product that can be used wet or dry, applied with a brush or fingertip or even a fluffy brush if you want a soft candlelit glow all over the skin. Because of the unique baked formula, the product almost feels creamy in application yet applies flawlessly on top of powder or liquid. The brand was very kind to send all four gelatos to me so I could share them with you, so let’s take a look!
Laura Geller Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator
They look sweet enough to eat! Laura Geller Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminators from top: Ballerina, Gilded Honey, Charming Pink, Peach Glow
The brand added two new shades to the gelato lineup for summer, Charming Pink and Peach Glow. Here are all four shades and descriptions, courtesy of Laura Geller:
- Gilded Honey – an effervescent caramel honey shade
- Ballerina – a candlelit, rose gold shade
- Peach Glow – a peachy champagne shimmer
- Charming Pink – a soft pink pearl
When the package from Laura Geller arrived, I have to admit I didn’t think I would get a lot of use out of it. After all, I’m an oily gal, plus living in Houston I’m spending most of my time applying mattifying primers and foundations and making sure I have blotting papers in my handbag before I head out! Still, I was curious, and as I type before you today, this girl has found her glow!
Before I give you a few more details, let’s take a closer look at these four glorious gelatos! Oh and before I forget, I decided to do a different type of swatching for you – on various parts of my face. This is not typically how I apply it (the intensity either!) but I felt like doing something other than arm swatches today, so here you go!
Just like liquid gold!
Sweet as honey! Gilded Honey swatched on the cheek.
Gilded Honey is probably my favorite of all four, especially for summertime, because I tend to gravitate toward golden highlights in general. I find them very versatile for any highlight placement, and I love the use them on the lids as eyeshadows, especially when I’m in a hurry. Gilded Honey does not disappoint – it can easily be worn sheer if you just you want a hint of gold highlight or it can be intensified when building it up or using it wet.
Rose gold doesn’t get any better than this!
Ballerina swatched on the bridge of the nose.
At first I thought Ballerina would be my favorite, because I’m all about everything rose gold. This is definitely a glorious shade so I do have it on rotation, but it seems a bit like a bronzed highlight on my complexion, so I’ve been mostly reaching for it when I’ve got a fresh faux tan on. If you have a deeper skintone, this one will be perfection for you!
A little pink sheen is the ultimate girly highlight!
A little Charming Pink for the cupid’s bow!
Charming Pink is a glorious frosted cool pink highlight that leans slightly white so it will blend well with any skintone. I tend to use this one when I want my cupid’s bow to pop or on the browbone to really lift my eye makeup. This is one of the newest additions to the Baked Gelatos and it is beautiful!
Peach indeed – need I say more?
Peach Glow swatched on the lids.
Another new Baked Gelato addition is Peach Glow, which I love to use in conjunction with any of the above highlighters we’ve already discussed. As you can see from the swatch, it nearly matches my skin tone when blended in, so I like to use this one as a subtle highlight. I also love to use this one on my lids as an eyeshadow on top of an eye primer and it lasts beautifully throughout the day. I’m so glad they added this shade to the collection – she is gorgeous!
Application & Product Details
My favorite way to apply the Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminators when I want a soft glow is with a small synthetic fluffy brush like the contour brush from Real Techniques or the tapered small round brush like this one from Kat Von D. When I’m going for more of a “I slayed it” look I tend to apply it with my finger to get more highlighting power.
One of the things I love most about these gelatos is that they aren’t messy when I use a brush in them, which cannot be said for most pressed powder highlighters out there (I’m looking at you BECCA!), yet they are incredibly pigmented, offer varying levels of highlighting power so you can slay hard, or keep it subtle plus they last all day even on my oily skin.
So do you need all four gelatos? As far as the shades offered, I wouldn’t say you necessarily need all four in your collection, unless of course you can’t help yourself (which is also completely ok!). Take a look at the tones offered in each shade as well as the type of highlight you know you are drawn to – cool, warm, bronzed, golden and select that way. All of the shades would be beautiful on any skintone, but if you take a moment to think about what you are drawn to then I guarantee you will find a favorite that you won’t be able to put down.
Overall, I can say with certainty these have taken the place of many different highlighting options I have in my makeup drawer, and I cannot recommend them enough!
Have you tried the LG Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminators? Which are your favorites? Let me know if you have another highlighting favorite and share in the comments below – I’d love to hear all about it!
