Urban Decay Revolution Lipsticks New for Fall 2013
URBAN DECAY’S NEW REVOLUTION LIPSTICKS launched a few weeks ago, and I was very excited to see what all the “creamy badass luxury” hype was all about! Offered in twenty-two shades that range from a variety of nudes, pinks, reds and deeper plums this collection has a shade for every lip out there. Today I’m sharing a full review and swatches of the two I’ve picked up so far- and I already I know for sure which ones my lips are itching for next!
Revolution Lipstick in “Lovelight”
Revolution Lipstick in “Protest” (an UrbanDecay.com exclusive)
I am in love with the gun-metal packaging – so gorgeous!
Lovelight is described as a “pale peachy-pink shimmer”
Lovelight is not quite opaque on my pigmented lips and has visible shimmer reflections with a good amount of shine.
Wearing Lovelight on top of 24/7 Glide On Lip Pencil in Naked (which increases the wear time – I am loving this combo!)
Protest is described as a “sheer peachy nude”
Protest on the lips is not at all sheer on my lips and is the perfect creamy fall warm nude.
Wearing Protest on the lips. (for more details on this makeup look please visit my post here: theLook: Jewel of an Eye)
URBAN DECAY SAYS: “Creamy, badass luxury. Our Pigment Infusion System delivers insane color payoff with creamy shine, Maxi-Lip plumps and nourishing oils leave lips cushiony soft.” They contain a nourishing blend of jojoba oil, avocado oil, cocoa butter and shea butter to keep the lips moisturized and soft.
Protest has a creamy and smooth consistency that is easy to apply to the lips. In application it feels slightly firm applying it directly to the lip but the product quickly warms up and applies easily. Although Urban Decay describes this shade as a “sheer peachy nude” I get full coverage with this one. The shade itself is gorgeous – a beautiful darker nude shade with slight peach tones but it doesn’t pull too brown or rusty so I find it compliments my skintone well. I do not have to wear a lip liner with this one – it stays within my lip lines. The wear time is great and it stays put for at least four hours, and doesn’t immediately disappear when eating, so I really like that aspect. As I wear it my lips feel moisturized and soft and I do not feel any dryness. The way it makes my lips feel and look (more smooth and plump) reminds me of a Chanel Rouge Coco lipstick, but with much more hydration and slightly more even wear.
Lovelight is a different formula than Protest because it is not as opaque, and has the addition of shimmer so I find it does vary in texture and longevity quite a bit. The shimmer is a very nice effect, giving the lips a golden peachy-pink sheen. Some my lip color tends to show through because it isn’t as opaque. When applying Lovelight I find it is much more firm than Protest and it is a little harder to spread onto my bare lips. I also find this shade much less moisturizing and smooth feeling than the more creamy Protest. My lips begin to feel a bit more dried out after about one hour, and Lovelight has pretty much worn off at that point for me as well. What I have found as I’ve been working with this lipstick is that it is amazing on top of the new 24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencil in Naked! I get it to last then approximately three hours and my lips stay feeling hydrated and smooth. It such a pretty combination! (see my IG photo here to see a quick snapshot) Because I don’t get the same results wearing Lovelight on its own, you will see that reflected in my review below because I am not very “wowed” by it all on its own. However, I do love it now that I have found a way to wear it.
