Playing with color for the eyes has been on my spring to-do list, and when I saw the new Too Faced Sugar Pop Sugary Sweet Eye Shadow Collection I knew the time had come.  Bring on the color!  Now I’m not one to wear this many colors on my lids, especially all at one time but Too Faced had me with this palette because the shades are just so me!  How did you know, Too Faced?

What a fun summer addition from Too Faced!

Three of my summer must-have shades, a brilliant turquoise, bold orange and rich bronze are in this palette which are gorgeous.  Add in a hot pink, a violet blue shimmer and a matte plum/taupe, and this is a palette that screams “Wear me every summer day!”

If you missed photos and swatches of this fun palette be sure to visit the feature here: Too Faced Sugar Pop on VanityRouge.  Now let’s look at a few photos of how this palette looks on the eyes as well as my brief review at the end.

How-To

To prep the lids I used Too Faced Shadow Insurance followed by MAC Paint Pot in Painterly.

  1. Taking the Sugar Pop palette, I started out with Peach Fuzz all over the lids and browbone, but in the end felt it blended in too well with my skintone, so I went back in with Rock Candy as a brow higlight.
  2. Blue Raspberry patted onto the lids, just shy of the crease.
  3. Macaron in the crease and blended into Blue Raspberry.
  4. Sugared Violet on the outer 1/3 of the lid and blended in the outer “v” area.
  5. Strawberry Ice on the inner corners.
  6. Bubblegum applied on top of YSL Waterproof Eye Pencil in Bleu Acqua to help it stick (also in waterline), then blended out slightly.

To complete the eyes I used MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack and two coats of Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara.

Other products used in this look:

Lips: Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipsticks in Melted Nude and Melted Peony, mixed.

Cheeks: Too Faced The Little Black Book of BronzersSun Bunny all over and Pink Leopard on the cheeks.

Review

The Too Faced Sugar Pop Palette gives a great variety in color and is an excellent compliment to more Too Faced neutral eye palettes such as the Natural Matte Eye Shadow Palette, also released for summer (review coming soon to VR so stay tuned!).

In terms of quality the shades are blendable, smooth, and I was impressed by the pigmentation in the bold colors.  The shadows are what I expected from the brand with a few shades that have fallout – namely Macaron, Malted Milk Ball and Sugared Violet so I would encourage application before under eye concealer.

Of the finishes in the palette, only one shade is truly matte, Blackberry, two are matte with glitter – Peach Fuzz and Rock Candy (Peach Fuzz gives glittery fallout.)  Four shades I would say are satin finishes, most with fine glitter – Strawberry Ice, Bubblegum, Macaron, and Blue Raspberry while the final shade Malted Milk Ball has a metallic glint to it with larger glitter.

My favorite of the palette is Malted Milk Ball, which oddly enough I did not use in this look, but when I was playing around with this shade I am in love with how bronze it is – it is so rich!  The colorful shades I love equally, with Sugared Violet being not as easy to work with than the others.  Of the highlight shades Strawberry Ice is stunning – it is pigmented, smooth and gives a soft satin sheen when blended out that looks pinky-purple.  I don’t have anything like this shade and I think it accents the other colors in the palette beautifully.

Overall this is another winner from Too Faced – you just have to expect a bit of fallout and I think you need to like a little fine glitter as well since it is not an all-matte palette.  Definitely fun for summer and something that is bringing life to my vanity and my eye looks, I’m loving it!

  1. Thanks for a detailed review, Angie. Strawberry Ice does look really pretty. The eye look created is so pretty, love how the shades you picked go together so well!

  2. Yay for color!!! I love that you thought outside the box for this look. Similar colors to a look Sephora put together for Color of the Year last year and you have me itching for brighter makeup <3

  3. The Blue Raspberry really looks so pretty on you! It’s the main star! Agree, perfect palette for summer! My eyes are on you now, Too Faced! hihi. Thanks, Angie! xo

Thank you Laarni! It is definitely a beautiful blue shade and I was surprised that it was just as beautiful on the lids too. Let me know if you end up getting this one! <3
