La Créme Color Drenched Lipsticks
L to R: Clueless, Wham!, Pink Chocolate, Mean Girls, Berry Naughty, 9021Ohhh
Of the new shades, we’ve seen Wham! released in the 2015 holiday collection, which has a bit of shimmer to it. This shimmer has also been added to a few more of these new releases, such as in Clueless and Mean Girls but we’ve also got a good amount of cream shades in the ultra buttery smooth formula that I love. As with all of the La Crémes, the scent is sweet like lemon drops, and the pigmentation is excellent. I get a light sheen upon first application, but after about 30 minutes it sinks into the lips as it wears. Although this isn’t the longest wearing lipstick, during the wear time it is comfortable and the color fades away evenly.
Above – Clueless, Mean Girls, Berry Naughty. Can you see the shimmer in Clueless and Mean Girls compared to Berry Naughty above?
As you can see, Wham! is the shimmery one of this bunch. Pink Chocolate and 9021Ohhh are the true creams.
So, you might be wondering how the shimmer translates when swatched and/or how they look on the lips. Let’s take a look at some swatches and see if you can spot a difference:
Swatched L to R: Clueless, Wham!, Pink Chocolate, Mean Girls, Berry Naughty, 9021Ohhh
Once on the lips the shimmer is much more pronounced. Here are a few close up swatches so you can see the shimmer.
Closeups L to R: Wham!, Mean Girls, Clueless
Looking a bit frosty with quite a bit of glitter, the three shades are not for the faint of heart – or those with wrinkly lips for that matter. I was instantly drawn to the pale pink of Clueless, however the frost in combination with the glitter is a bit much for my lips for everyday. The other two shades – Mean Girls and Wham! are closer to my natural lip tones so the frosty look isn’t as pronounced which means they look more metallic and definitely more wearable for me. Wham! was released in a previous holiday collection (see here) and I think it is a beautiful holiday shade that I’m glad they added to the collection. I feel I should also mention these leave a lot of glitter behind as they wear down, so if you want to change your mind and switch to a new lipstick you are going to have glittery lips!
On the Lips
Clueless La Créme is described as a “shimmering cotton candy”. It is a metallic pale pink shade with lots of glitter sparkles. The feeling on the lips is not as smooth as the regular La Créme lipsticks, and in comparison with the other shimmering shades I tested out it is not as smooth either. The color is definitely pretty, but in person it is quite metallic so it wouldn’t be something I feel I could wear day to day. It is definitely a fun shade though, and if you are into a frosty metallic look for the lips and love a pale cool pink then go for this one!
9021Ohhh is described as a “candy apple red”. Ultra smooth and easy to apply, this lipstick is what I come to expect from a good cream from Too Faced. Also, this particular shade of red is a good staple shade to have in your collection because it doesn’t feel too formal or too casual – definitely versatile for any occasion.
Mean Girls is described as a “shimmering cool pink”. This shade packs a punch both in color and metallic sheen! Fortunately the glitter isn’t as chunky as with Clueless, so it goes on a bit more smoothly and tends to look more overall metallic. This one would be super fun for a girls night out, but it is outside of my comfort zone for every day wear.
Pink Chocolate is described as a “berry brown”. It is an easy wear berry shade that sits right in between a brown and a true berry. I have been reaching for this shade often over the past few weeks. Again, the formula is excellent – buttery smooth in application and it feels good on the lips.
Berry Naughty is described as a “berry wine”. As with many berry shades, it appears much darker in the tube than it goes on the lips. Once on the lips it is a true berry shade with a pinch of plum and a bit of fuchsia. The formula is nice on this one and again it feels smooth on the lips in application and as it wears.
Wham! is described as an “iridescent raspberry”. Although this one has some of the metallic sheen to it, the overall effect is more subtle than with Clueless and Mean Girls so I find it easily wearable. The formula is smoother and more similar to the regular creamy formulas as well, making this one of my favorites since it’s holiday release in 2015.
Overall I’m liking the cream additions to the Too Faced La Créme lipsticks, but I’m not as wild about the shimmer versions, with the exception of Wham! which I liked released in the 2015 holiday collection. They are definitely fun shades but because they are frosty and glittery I know I won’t necessarily wear them out and about on a daily basis. I’m curious about the other four shades – especially Unicorn Tears the iridescent shimmer shade and I wonder if it is just as shimmery/glittery as the ones in this bunch? Of the creams I experienced, Pink Chocolate is my favorite because it is so easy to wear.
Have you purchased or swatched any of these new additions to the Too Faced La Créme Lipstick lineup? I’d love to hear about it in the comments below!
