Oscars 2013 Makeup: Spotlight on Bright Lips and My Red Carpet Inspired Look

Red-Carpet-Red-y-Oscars-2013

Nude and natural lips seemed to be a theme at Sunday night’s Oscars, but I was drawn to the ladies who dared to amp up their look with a bold lip! This inspired me to create my own red-carpet-ready look with a bold lip as well!

My Oscars 2013 red carpet inspired look. Simple and shimmery eyes, with a vibrant orange-red lip.

For the eyes I used a champagne base all over the lid and patted shimmery gold on the top. I’m convinced if I ever were to walk the Red Carpet, some shimmer must be involved, even if it is subtle!

To warm up the crease area of the eyes I used Urban Decay’s Naked Basics and original Naked palettes.

For the lips I chose the new Maybelline Colorsensational Vivids Lipstick in Vibrant Manderin. I am also convinced I would insist upon wearing a bold lip in the event my feet touch the Red Carpet!

For the cheeks, I slightly contoured using bronzer, applied a natural warm peach blush to the cheeks and finished off with a highlighting powder on the top of the cheekbones (products listed below).

I decided to curl my hair towards my face (vs. away from) for a cascading effect. I opted for a deep side part and kept lots of volume on the top.

For my curls, I did an “accidental” pin curl look that is neither intentional nor precise. I pinned up my curls to allow them to set as I curled my entire head, and this one just insisted upon staying up. (Although on the Red Carpet I would definitely fine-tune my technique!) ;)

In situations of real-life Red Carpet events, I would most certainly wear false eyelashes, but for today my newest favorite waterproof mascara performed well.

The makeup at the 2013 Oscars was fairly soft overall, with celebrities showing off flawless skin, soft yet defined eyes, and a whisper of natural blush.  Nude and natural lips seemed to take the center stage, but I was drawn to the celebrities who took it to the next level and wore a little more color on their lips.  Here are a few that caught my eye.

Jessica Chastain.  I think we can all agree from the dress, to her gorgeous locks and her classic Hollywood red lip, Jessica’s entire look was flawless!  I love how the shade of red on her lips complimented her complexion.  She looked heavenly!

Anne Hathaway.  Although Anne’s dress got quite a bit of chatter for its unique qualities, I love how her makeup artist chose a medium pink lip that complimented her entire look.  It was subtle enough to look classic, yet vibrant enough to light up her face (although Anne’s beautiful smile does a great job of that on its own!).  For details on Anne’s makeup, visit Temptalia.com

Kelly Osbourne.  Kelly’s makeup and complexion is always so flawless, and I love how her vibrant lipstick coordinates beautifully with her soft purple hair.  She looked amazing!  If you happen to know what shade her lipstick is I am dying to find out!

Fan Bingbing.  There were a handful of celebrities who matched their lip to their dress, and Fan’s bright fuchsia dress with matching lip looked stunning against her silky complexion and dark hair.  Definitely a beautiful statement!

Me.  Details below of my look!  Oh, and next time I’m “on the Red Carpet” I’ll be sure to give you an exclusive! ;)

Brandi Lanville.  Brandi was another star whose ensemble was probably the most-talked about, namely for its “hold on for dear life” qualities, but I think her makeup was amazing!  She had such a flawless and bright complexion and her bright red lip complimented her perfectly.
