Let loose with a little color…it’s summer after all!

Over the weekend I decided to have a little fun and create two looks with Maybelline The Brights Palette.  While usually I’m only adding a pop of color on the lower lashline to keep things conservative I set my inner artist free and went with color all over – and I’ve got to admit I love it!

Maybelline The Brights Eyeshadow Palette – for a full review please see this post here.

I think my personal favorite is the first look because I’ve never worn those color combinations before!  The second look was an afterthought, but I really wanted to work with the deep purple and blues to share how they look on the eyes and to share my experience in working with them.  If you missed my review of this palette, you can see that here.

Makeup Look#1 Sizzling Summer Color

Something about color puts me in a sassy mood! 😉

For this eye look I used every shade in the first row (except the pink) as well as the deep brown from the bottom row.  On the lips: MAC Boldly Bare Lip Liner to line the lips with Maybelline Rebel Bloom in Barely Bloomed all over the lips. On the cheeks: Milani Luminoso

Makeup Look #2 Not So Blue

Blues and turquoise are my “safe” colors that I don’t feel shy about wearing, but sometimes wearing them all over the lids results in a “Mimi” kind of look.  I tried to keep the blue from blending too far up the lids and adding some purple to ground it.  I think I like it!

For this eye look I wanted to use the dark purple in the palette to see how it performs on the lids but instead of going with something deep I wanted to keep the overall look light and fresh so I went in with the royal blue and turquoise.  The whole color combination works because the color payoff is light yet I can build it up in certain spots so it is not overwhelming. On the lips: Maybelline Rebel Bloom Blushing Bud.  On the cheeks: LORAC Exposed

  1. OMG I LOVE these shades! Of course I’m a “color girl”. This one is going to make me get out to Target…I clicked the link, but sadly it says this palette isn’t sold online (at least not yet). Thanks for your post!

  2. Wow! I love both these looks. Blue eyeshadow gets bashed too much, I think, thanks to Mimi and the 80s. I think it looks fine for occasions where you want a little extra drama.

Love how fresh the top look is, and I would never have thought to add a touch of purple to a gold look, but it looks really neat.

Thank you Stephanie! I have to chuckle about the Mimi and the 80’s look – poor blue eye shadow never had a chance after those years, haha! BUT I’m glad we aren’t going to let that stop us from giving the world a little extra drama in the form of blue eyeshadow, right?! Do you have any true blue eyeshadow (or eyeliner) favorites?

      1. I use one of Almay’s eyeshadow trios for blue eyes. It’s the one with light blue, dark blue, and this stunning copper that contrasts really nicely with blue eyes.

Oh I love a copper shadow with blue eyes – my favorite!! I will have to check out that palette because I actually have not tried many products from Almay – just a handful of lip products and I’m curious – thanks girl! 🙂

          1. Angie, you might want to check out the Pacifica eye palette in Mystical Supernatural. I have it (got it from Ulta) and it’s outstanding! I believe it’s now on sale as well.

That is great to know Michele! I actually haven’t tried Pacifica eye products before so thank you! 🙂

  3. I’m sorry to be a nuisance and leave a double comment. But I commented on one of your posts somewhere asking what kind of camera you use to take such great photos of your makeup, and of course now I have no idea which post that was. I’ll try to remember to come back to this one with the Brights palette. Thanks in advance.
