L’Oreal Colour Riche Wet Shine Stain (Caresse Aqua Lacquer Lipgloss) | Review, Photos, Swatches

Colour Caresse Wet Shine Stain

The new L’Oreal Colour Riche Caresse Aqua Lacquer Lipglosses, also known as Wet Shine Stain have been seen popping up in stores as the latest addition to the L’Oreal lip gloss collection.  These water-based stain formula glosses with high shine have been compared to the high end YSL Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stains.  I have a separate comparison post coming up between the two products, so today I will be sharing with you photos and swatches of four shades.

The doe foot applicator is almond-shaped which makes for a more precise application.

The Colour Caresse Wet Shine Stains come in twelve shades from nude, to a variety of pink tones as well as mauve, plums, red and even coral.  The wide variety is impressive for the initial launch of this gloss, and combined with the presentation in luxurious packaging, this product is definitely going to be one hard to resist.

L’Oreal states the Wet Shine Stains “Combine the power of a lip stain with a lip-gloss luster.  They contain 30% water and leave the lips soft, comfortable and hydrated for up to 6 hours.”

Scent & Application Experience.  If you are familiar with the scent of a YSL Glossy Stain then the scent of the Wet Shine Stain will not surprise you.  It seems a bit off or strange at first, but if you just think of a field of flowers then you will grow to like it (well I do anyway!). :)  Because of the similarities, it smells like an expensive lip product to me.  (Even though I said I would be comparing the two later, I do have to let the scent part slip a little bit in this review I guess… ;)  The application of this is very smooth, and because it is water-based goes on almost gel-like and feels cool on the lips.  The color is build-able if you allow it to dry between applications.  I found this product to last on my lips very well even through a meal, and although some of the shine was removed, a nice stain was left behind.  I noticed after about 4 hours of wear (not eating or drinking) my lips became more tacky and the texture felt a little thick, the color remained, and I experienced some degradation of the high shine. I would say on my lips I did not sense the 6 hour hydration, but the definitely did not feel dry after several hours wear, just tacky.  It was not bothersome to me.

Product Packaging.  In all of the in-store displays I have found the Wet Shine Stains they have not been sealed.  If you missed my previous post showing this, you can read that here: L’Oreal Colour Riche Caresse Aqua Lacquer Lipgloss (Wet Shine Stain) .  I contacted L’Oreal customer service by phone today to share my concern, and the representative said L’Oreal does not seal their lip products currently on the market.  Several L’Oreal lip products I have purchased in 2012 have been sealed, so I am not certain if this is a new change for the company in 2013?  (By “sealed” I am referring to the placement of the barcode sticker preventing opening of the product before purchase.)  I am uncertain if this is something that is placed on the products during the manufacturing process, and if this is the case, I encourage L’Oreal to remedy the situation, even with just this product in particular.

Overall, I love the product for what it is – a water-based gel-like stain that has intense shine!  I am not sure everyone will like the scent, but for the price I find them to be very good value.  I love the shine on the lip as well as the stain left behind, and the color selection has a beautiful range so you can find your perfect shade!

    1. OHMYGOD I need Berry Persistent! Done deal! I’m glad you swatched that one, I was thinking of passing on these stain/glosses

    2. Pink Resistance is by FAR my favorite–so so pretty! This looks like such a great option for those that don’t want to splurge on the pricier versions! The finish is amazing!

      • Angie says:

Yes I think that has to be my favorite easy-wear shade as well!  The finish is very nice and I’m loving the colors – I agree it is a very nice cheaper alternative! :)

    3. Alison M says:

Beautiful photos, Angie!  How weird that these aren’t sealed.  And kind of gross.  But they are pretty.  Pink Resistance looks rather perfect and I’m more of a bold girl :)

      • Angie says:

Thank you Alison! <3  Yeah I agree I was kind of torn – as you can see I found the product itself absolutely stunning to photograph but the fact that it is harder to tell if they have been swatched already leaves me so mixed.  I definitely would not purchase from a display had it appeared to have been opened in any way.
I would love to see what shade you would purchase!  There was a bright fuchsia, orange and hot pink one that I wanted to swatch so badly! :)

    4. Elsa says:

I think I just fell in love with the last two *.* Gorgeous pictures, as always! You make me want to get everything you post about :P

    5. Love these! Great photos. I have Berry Persistent and Coral Tattoo- I reviewed them on my blog also! :D

      • Angie says:

Thank you! :) I love Berry Persistent – it is so beautiful! I was totally debating if I should purchase Coral Tattoo the day I picked these up. All of the shades look amazing it is hard not to purchase them all! ;) Coral Tattoo looks so beautiful on you – definitely a perfect choice! :)

    6. Erin says:

These are so beautiful!  I haven’t found them yet but I will definitely be picking up these 4 shades.  Just lovely…

As far as no seals on packaging…  I can’t buy anything in my Ulta.  It’s disgusting and unsanitary.  At least the people who do try them out have filthy paws so I can definitely tell the products have been tampered with and I know not to buy them.  lol

      • Angie says:

I agree they are so pretty! <3 I can't get enough (and am forcing myself not to purchase more, lol!) I hear you about unsanitary conditions at Ulta, but my CVS tends to be worse here, lol! For some reasons Walgreens isn't that bad, but maybe it is because they have someone who works in the Beauty Dept and they can keep a close watch on those who would otherwise have a free-swatch-for-all! Ha! With this product it either seems like a mistake, but maybe not. Regardless, I think there are many more people just like you and I who would not purchase items that look like they have been tampered with.

Your swatches are by far the best on the web right now. I been sitting here like a loser googling these suckers all morning hahaha funny thing is the 4 color I really want is the 4 you choose too!!! Angie… we have such great minds. <3 haha

      • Angie says:

Haha of course our minds are brilliant! ;) Lol!  So happy my swatches helped you out girl!  I can’t wait until yours come so I can hear what you think of them! :)

    8. Kristie Duong says:

      wow you have GREAT photos!

    9. BlushBug says:

I know what you mean about unsanitary. Sure, if they do not want to seal a lipstick at least I can tell when someone’s touched it, but with this product you can’t tell. Luckily, I work at a place that carries these, so I can grab them before they go on the shelf. Unfortunately everyone else doesn’t have the luxury of that :/

Otherwise, I love the products! I was only unsatisfied with the lightest shade as it didn’t change my lip color at all. :(

Loved your review of all of these!!! Xx

      • Angie says:

Hi Ashley! I was so surprised about the lack of tamper evident packaging on these and figured by now when seeing them in the permanent displays here that I would see the packaging modified (just in case it was a manufacturing mistake or something) but they are still not sealed even in the permanent collection. I was so curious about the lighter shades – did you get the nude one? I found that Pink Resistance, although light, does leave a nice stain and look on my lips, but I can’t imagine trying to wear one of the lighter shades yet since that one is fairly weak. I do not own any of the YSL light shades to compare the pigmentation, so I can only guess they are more pigmented even with the lighter shades?
I’m glad you liked the review! Have a great week! :)

        • BlushBug says:

They are extremely similar to the ysl ones. So I wouldn’t waste your money one them unless you really find a shade you want. I purchased the lifestyle pink one in the line. Can’t remember the exact shade. But after wearing it for a bit. I can see that people would like them for a gloss on the lips that slightly lightens them as well. Personally, I don’t like gloss so I’m probably biased. I really, really hope that loreal change there packaging on them. It’s so disappointing when you see people opening the ones on the shelf and having a swatch feast.

          • Angie says:

Thank you for the reply on what you thought about the lighter pigmented YSL glosses! I was so curious to see how they stacked up, and it sounds like they are just all around the same as the L’Oreal ones which is so great. :) Yes I do hope that L’Oreal changes the packaging, but who knows if that will ever happen!

    10. NeedACleverName says:

I’ve never really considered L’Oreal as a choice for lip products before. I have to think again now!

      • Angie says:

Yes I am very impressed by these! They are different feeling on the lips for sure, so if you haven’t worn the YSL Glossy Stain yet, then you can see what you think with this version first! My favorite lipstick ever (so far!) is the L’Oreal Colour Caresse lipsticks – I would highly recommend those! They are pigmented, very shiny and light on the lips (I think I have a whole post with different looks I did with them that I transferred to VR from my other blog). They aren’t long-wearing, but I love them! :)

        • NeedACleverName says:

I’ll have to try them. My lips are fairly pigmented naturally, so I tend to favor lipsticks that have enough pigment to give me the color I see in the tube on my lips without my natural color diluting them. I think that’s why I have been so in love with Maybelline ColorSensational–most of them give me the color I see in the tube with one swipe and most of them are cremes. Also why I love the Rimmel Lasting Finish Kate Moss ranges, though they can look a little drier on the lip. The Rimmel Moisture Renew Cremes are close, but so many of the Moisture Renew lipsticks have a ton of shimmer (and awful, gritty feeling shimmer at that) and are fairly sheer that I find them to be hit and miss. LOVE Vintage Pink though–it’s a medium lavender undertoned pink and pretty opaque without any shimmer at all, just a lovely creme. And the Revlon SuperLustrous are all too sheer for my needs–even the ones they call Matte.

I guess I need to be on the lookout for some L’Oreal BOGOs! :)

          • Angie says:

I know what you mean about some of the Rimmel Moisture Renew lipsticks being a bit gritty especially with the glitter in them. After only being into lipsticks the past couple of years I find that I love the ones that have medium pigmentation, are very light and have a nice sheen all by themselves. It is funny, but I don’t care for the ones that stain too much because I like the freedom of changing my lips when I want, and if they are stained it is a lot harder to do that! Am I strange? Lol! ;) I will have to check out Vintage Pink! It sounds gorgeous! :)

Yes, I hope you find some L’Oreal BOGOs so you can experience these! :)

            • NeedACleverName says:

When I need to get a staining lip color off my lips, I use eye makeup remover! Works like a charm. :)

            • Angie says:

Perfect idea! I will use eye makeup remover next time! ;)

            • NeedACleverName says:

If you only want to change the lip color while leaving the rest of your makeup intact, a Q-tip works best. You’ll need a few of them, but then you won’t remove any foundation/powder on your face. Otherwise, I use a tissue or cotton ball.

            • Angie says:

Oh that is smart! I love the q-tip idea! :)

    11. Anna says:

I completely agree about Loreal not sealing their products :( I love their lip glosses, but I refuse to purchase them, a sexy red lipstick would not be worth contracting oral herpes for life . I wrote the company, but they never responded. They are missing out on a lot more customers because of their unsanitary packaging.

      • Angie says:

I also inquired with the company but got no response either, so that is unfortunate. I feel like possibly ordering online would be more safe, but on the other hand I even feel like inspecting it myself before purchase puts me most at ease. I am confused as to why they do not place a sticker over it, but hopefully if enough customers complain they will take a moment to listen! That is my hope anyway!
