One of L’Oreals new Advanced Haircare product lines that launched recently is the Total Repair 5, which is meant to repair up to one year of damage, taking care of five problems: split ends, weakness, roughness, dullness, and dehydration. L’Oreal states with daily use of the shampoo and balm, it can reverse damage to hair’s smoothness.
Product claims & description. This “balm” is a deep conditioner that is to be used after shampooing,
and left in the hair for 3-5 minutes before washing out.
The consistency of this rinse-out balm is like a very creamy and thick conditioner that is very smooth.
Damage-Erasing Balm. The consistency of the balm is a very creamy, thick and silky. The scent has a very salon-like scent with a bright floral twist to it (slightly like a perfume). I found the scent quite pleasant, although unlike any other hair product I have tried before. I have highlighted hair and I found with one use of this total repair balm that my hair was soft and manageable but not as hydrated as I was expecting it to be for a treatment. For the price point especially, I do think it is a nice conditioning balm that I will continue working with a few more weeks and then update you in a favorites video coming up soon.
Have you tried any of the new Advanced Haircare product lines from L’Oreal?
I’d love to hear which ones you recommend and why you like them!

I almost bought this, but I’m not sure if it’s a conditioner or a mask. How do you use it?
It is like a deep conditioner. I’m not sure why they call it a balm, but after shampooing and rinsing, you apply this to your hair and let it sit for 3-5 minutes, then rinse it out. :)
Ah, interesting. I might try it out then. My hair has been super dry ever since having Jamison and I’m trying everything to fix – even up’d my water intake in case my scalp is dehydrated or something. :/
After my first use of this my hair did not feel as hydrated as I was expecting (as I noted) so I will see what happens when I try it again. They claim that you can see better results using the shampoo and the balm together, but I have not verified that. My current favorite deep conditioner is the Organix Hydrating Macadamia Oil deep conditioning treatment (short brown tub) or the Organix Moroccan Argan Oil conditioning treatment (short blue tub). Those leave my hair feeling silky immediately, and I can feel the moisture getting into my hair shaft, vs. just skimming over the top – does that make any sense, lol?!
I hope that helps! I will be sure to mention how this one fares. It is cheap, so even if I just use it like a regular conditioner I think it is a nice product.
I gauge my hair’s hydration on how long I can go till I need another wash. So far the winner is the Macadamia Natural Oil Deep Repair Masque, which I leave on for about 10mins. That one lets me go 2 days before feeling dry and itchy for another wash. It’s such a frustrating hair time for me, lol. I’m going to pick up those Organix treatments, and pass on this Loreal one. I’m thinking I might need to get a shower cap and really let these products soak.
Great idea with the shower cap! I use one every day after putting any type of conditioner (even if it is regular) so the product can really sit on my hair while I finish up in the shower. It has totally made a difference in my hair feeling like it has been deep conditioned each time I get out of the shower!
I can’t wait to hear what you think of the Organix products. I did a comparison of the Macadamia Natural Deep repair Masque and the Organix Hydrating Macadamia conditioning treatment and I found I like the Organix one better with my hair type. For me the Organix made my hair feel more hydrated.
You sound like you have been so frustrated with trying to find the right product so good luck!
Thanks
Been a year now trying to figure out what my hair is needing, lol
