essie Full Steam Ahead Summer 2013 Naughty Nautical Collection
essie Full Steam Ahead from the Summer 2013 Collection is a beautiful lilac shade – just deep enough to tip over the edge of pastel and be classified as a medium lilac. It may seem a little out of place in a collection consisting of mostly brights, but this one is a solid shade that I am convinced could hold her own and navigate the uncharted seas with the best of them!
Full Steam Ahead is described as a “pearlescent punch lilac”
As with most of the shades in this collection, Full Steam Ahead has slight shimmer in it.
This medium-toned lilac shade is one of the softer shades in the Naughty Nautical Collection for summer.
2 coats Full Steam Ahead, no top coat.
“take the helm and embark on a fantastic voyage. this medium toned lilac nail polish with a pearlescent punch steers you in style.”
Formula and Application
The formula of Full Steam Ahead is a little more runny than the some of the others I have played with in this collection so far. Despite that, it is not hard to work with once figuring out how much to load on the brush. This was surprisingly opaque in only two coats, which is very nice for a lilac shade, especially in the essie line of nail lacquers. Although there is shimmer in this one, it is quite subtle on the nail with only two coats, so it is possible with three it would show up a little more. essie’s description that the shade is a “pearlescent punch lilac” does not refer to the base of the polish, but more so what the polish looks like with the shimmer in it, because it is a cream shade with shimmer added.
While I don’t find this medium lilac shade to be the most exciting of the collection, this one is very nice especially since it only takes two coats to achieve full opacity. If you are looking for a lilac shade that delivers in two coats plus has a unique element of shimmer, then definitely look into this one!
