Straight Talk from My Shower: Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Review

In Hair by Angie Canning2 Comments

It’s been awhile since I’ve given you straight talk from my shower, so today is the day!  Back in April when making a little trip to Sephora on my birthday I decided to splurge and use up 500 of my Beauty Insider points on a Bumble and Bumble Hairdressers Invisible Oil kit (shown above and in this post here).  Since that time the following has happened.

I loved it.

I didn’t love it.

I heard someone else talk about it so I tried it again.

Now I love it.

Does anyone else do that?  Please tell me I’m not the only one!

The B&B Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil products contain six oils to help control frizz, smooth and control flyaways, moisturize and soften the hair.  My hair is fine and I have damage from lightening it, also I tend to deal with a bit of frizziness due to the high humidity.  My hair is easily weighed down and I have an oily scalp so sometimes that can be quite a balancing act to find what works for me.  In the beginning when using all four products from this sample kit I wasn’t liking that my hair felt like it got buildup quite a bit faster and felt like it had product in it.  After setting it aside for a couple weeks I watched LisaSZ09 talk about this line as her favorite for her hair and she mentioned that you really do not need much of the shampoo or conditioner at all so I decided to give it a try again and I love it!  Here are my thoughts on each product:

Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Shampoo & Conditioner, $31 – $34 US, sephora.com – The shampoo is sulfate free so it doesn’t suds up very much, but I noticed that it was definitely easier to work with when I didn’t use as much as I normally would and when I use less it still cleans but rinses out more easily.  The conditioner is my favorite, and again a little does go a long way so I use it sparingly.  I found it absorbs into my hair better when I squeeze the excess water out of my hair before applying.  As with all conditioners I put on a shower cap as I go about the rest of my cleansing routine so the conditioner can soak into my hair for a few minutes without washing out.  The scent of these two products is heavenly but something I cannot quite put my finger on but it is a very sweet scent, possibly like milk and honey!

Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil, $38 US, sephora.com– The oil sample really didn’t last very long but I tried to use it sparingly and loved it to the last drop!  It is definitely lightweight, adds shine and manageability to my hair and my hair simply loved it, plus the smell is heavenly.  I will purchase a full size asap!

Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Heat/UV Protective Primer, $26 US, sephora.com– I am really not a huge fan of primers in my hair because I really like to keep things simple because I like that feeling of running my fingers through my hair and having it be smooth and silky, not feel like I have product on it.  This product is actually designed for dry, brittle and coarse hair so although I do like the heat/uv protector because of my hair texture it just doesn’t work for me.  Definitely give it a try if you have coarse hair!

  1. Hi, do you have a dupe for the b&b invisible oil primer? I would love to know!

Hi Anna – great question! I have tried the OGX Renewing Argan Oil Of Morocco Weightless Healing Dry Oil that was similar in how lightweight it was for my hair. What I like about the Bumble & Bumble one is that it feels like it is hard to overdo it though, which is good for my fine hair. With other oils I have to make sure I don’t overdo it or my hair will look too greasy. If you use the OGX one sparingly it works similarly though. I will be sure to let you know if I run into one just like it someday though!
