7 Summer Hair Care Essentials

In Hair, Series by Angie Canning2 Comments

Summer is here and with it changes to hair care to keep up with the sizzling season!  Today I’m sharing 7 of my summer hair care favorites to nourish, cleanse, smooth and volumize – plus two of my favorites especially for blonde hair!

Ouidad-Superfruit-Renewal-Clarifying-Cream-Shampoo

Ouidad Superfruit Renewal Clarifying Cream Shampoo, $18 Summertime shenagians can leave hair dull with lots of product build up, so a good clarifying shampoo is a must.  I must admit to you that I snatched this one up immediately after it came across my desk and it’s been held hostage in my shower ever since!  I am in love with the grapefruit scent of this, and because it is a cream formula it is unlike any clarifying shampoo I have used before, which is a good thing!  My hair comes out feeling very clean without leaving it feeling stripped.  I’ve been using this at least once, and up to two times weekly depending on how much product I use in my hair throughout the week.

Alterna-Caviar-Anti-Aging-3-Minute-Shine-Boost

Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging 3-Minute Shine Boost, $26 I’m fairly certain if anyone was faced with the question: “Would you like your hair to be shiny or dull?”  SHINY would be at the top of the list!  Ever since experiencing a glossing treatment in a salon a couple of years back I’ve been looking for a product to do it at home, and this product nearly gets me there!  Think “healthy shine” rather than “high sheen” and I’ve got a product that I can can use as often as I like when I feel like I need a little extra shine without the heavy feeling of styling oils or sprays!  This product is easy to use – simply apply it in the shower (or out) after cleansing and conditioning, allow it to sit on the hair for 3 minutes and then rinse out.

summeroomph

Living-Proof-PHD-Styling-Cream

Living Proof PHD 5-in-1 Styling Treatment, $26.  After using the PHD line from Living proof you might just feel like you’ve graduated at the top your class.  The 5-in-1 styling treatment is my favorite from the line, giving my fine hair some “oomph” without weighing it down and just overall making it feel more substantial without having to tease it!  This product took a little bit of trial and error to determine how much I should use on my hair, but now that I’ve got it down it is perfection!  Although I do not use it every day, when I want my hair to have that volume and hold a curl like there is no tomorrow this is the logical choice!

Philip-B-Maui-Wowie-Beach-Mist

Philip B. Maui Wowie Beach Mist, $22 is my summer beachy-hair love from last summer, and it’s carrying me on into the beginning of this season as well!  I love the beach scent, and unlike some beach mist styling sprays it does not dry out my fine hair and gives me the perfect volume and hold to my beachy waves.  Maui Wowie will remain in my summer arsenal this year as well!

summerblondes

Matrix-So-Silver-Shampoo

Matrix Total Results So Silver Shampoo $9  Since going a little blonder this summer I’ve noticed I need to pay attention to making sure my locks are bright and don’t start turning brassy!  This is the first brightening shampoo I’ve tried that works instantly to revive the platinum highlights in my hair as well as reduce brassiness in my darker blonde areas as well.  As with many blonde/brightening shampoos this is a deep purple which naturally freaked me out a little, but it works!  The only caveat for me is the scent – it kind of smells like an anti-dandruff shampoo, so I find myself washing my hair with my favorite shampoo afterwards to try and get rid of the scent a little.  Nevertheless, it works great and I use this weekly!

OGX-Sunkiss-Lemon-Highlight-Oil

OGX Sunkissed Blonde Lemon Highlights Citrus Oil Mist, $7.99 is my summertime fling!  With lemons, key lime and coconut oil this light oil mist practically screams summer!  I love to use this when I want my blonde to shine a bit – I don’t find it lightens up my hair, but it enhances and brings out the blonde, giving it a little more sheen without glitter so it looks natural!  I like to spray this on my hair away from the roots and lightly comb my fingers through, making sure not to over apply since it is an oil.  I love how it makes my hair look smooth and shiny after using my flat iron!

summersmooth

Tangle-Teezer

Tangle Teezer Compact Styler, $20 was included in my May favorites and so far it is a total summertime favorite!  I love how easily I can smooth my after-shower tangles and although the shape is strange to hold in the hand at first, I became accustomed to it quickly, making it my all-time favorite hairbrush!  I purchased mine from Target, but I see there are some pretty fabulous versions at Sephora, which makes me want to buy a “backup” – especially in the fun leopard print one!

How do you change up your hair care during the hot summer months?  I’d love to know your summer hair essentials!

  1. Since my hair is light blonde too I always use the “purple” shampoo. I will have to try the Matrix one. My favorite so far has been Clairol Shimmer Lights. I highly recommend it.

Oh I will definitely have to try out the Clairol one! I have heard about that too but I happened to find this one first. Thanks for the recommendation!
